Pete's Not Faking It

By - (19 February, 2006, Sunday Mercury (Birmingham))

THE most ridiculous rumour of the week that Pete Doherty is a fake rock star has reached the ears of I-Spy.

An e-mail is circulating the world suggesting that the druggie rocker's real name is, in fact, Trevor McDermott - and that he's a professional Buddy Holly impersonator.

The men behind 90s dance band KLF are believed to be responsible for the hoax.

But the allegations cannot possibly be true. The Sunday Mercury ran a story last year in which Doherty's former teacher at his Warwickshire school was interviewed - and said what a model pupil he was.

I heard Pete was spreading a counter-rumour that KLF are a fake band... how dare he!
