Stand by your mom

By - (1992-01-00, People)

Country music queen Tammy Wynette (of "I'm not ... some little woman, standing by my man, like Tammy Wynette" fame, per Hillary Clinton's swipe on 60 Minutes) had never heard of the British dance-music group The KLF before its members asked her to join them on a song called "Justified and Ancient". Already a smash hit in Europe, the single caused considerable commotion when it debuted recently in Nashville, where Wynette lives. "My daughter called me up and said. Mom! Turn on the radio. They're playing your song!" says Wynette, 49. "[The radio station] was giving away T-shirts to whoevery could say who the mystery singer was. One lady said it was Bonnie Raitt. Another said it was Mariah Carey. I almost died! My housekeeper was listening and was dialing her fingers off trying to win."
