Description: Drummond and Cauty are returning with a new single and live date at the Barbican as 2K, inspired by Williams Fairy Brass Band

By - (30 August, 1997, Melody Maker)

THE KLF, aka The K Foundation, aka The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu, aka The Timelords, are returning to action - but only for 23 minutes!

Predictably, they've come up with yet another new name to accompany their short-lived new project. The duo, Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty, are planning a solitary show at the London Barbican Main Hall on September 2, beginning at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now, priced £10, from the venue box office, which can be contacted on 0171-638 8891. The show will be recorded, and will be released as a single on September 22.

The performance, and the single, was announced via two ads placed in Time Out magazine last week. It'll be the first time Drummond and Cauty have appeared on stage since the Brits Awards in 1992, when they concluded their performance by announcing "The KLF have left the music business."

The first of the ads announces: "They're back. The Creators of Trance. The Lords of Ambient. The Kings Of Stadium House. The Godfathers of Techno Metal. The Greatest Rave Band In The World. Ever.

"For 23 minutes only."

The second ad is headed: "Jeremy Deller presents: '1997 - What The F***'s Going On?'" The title alludes to the first record that brought Drummond & Cauty widespread attention, "1987 (What The F*** Is Going On?)", released under their Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu guise. The ad goes on to explain: "Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond invite you to a 23 minute performance during which the next 840 days of our lives will be discussed."

According to the duo's spokesman, the inspiration for the one-off 2K performance came earlier this year when Deller, a young British artist, staged an event at the London Queen Elizabeth Hall titled "Acid Brass". The show starred the award-winning William Fairey Brass Band playing eight rave anthems - among them The KLF's "What Time Is Love?"
